Who We Are
Reach Up Reach Out exists to engage people in holistically caring for orphans, widows, and the vulnerable.
Our foundation begins with wholehearted devotion. To love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength is the greatest calling of our lives. Every person's purpose flows from understanding who they belong to. When we know we are His, we live differently — anchored in identity, driven by love.
God's heart has always been for people. We reflect His love when we serve those who are overlooked, forgotten, or hurting. When we care for "the least of these," we are tangibly loving Jesus — meeting needs, restoring dignity, and carrying hope where it's needed most.
We were never meant to do this alone. Real impact multiplies when we move together. That's why we train, equip, and empower others to live out James 1:27 — through scholarships, mission trips, and hands-on service — so compassion becomes a lifestyle, not just a moment.
Our Founders
For more than two decades, Alex and Shunna Jones-Moreno have devoted their lives to loving God and serving people. As ordained ministers and founders of Reach Up Reach Out, they have ministered around the world, sharing a passion to see lives transformed by Jesus and marked by compassion in action. Both graduates of UCLA — Alex with a Master's in Social Work and Shunna with a degree in History — they bring pastoral care, strategic leadership, and deep empathy to everything they do.
In 2014, Alex, Shunna, and their 8-year-old daughter, Layla, moved to Uganda during the adoption of their son Caleb. What began as a personal journey became a calling. After witnessing the overwhelming needs of hundreds of vulnerable children, they knew they could not simply walk away. In 2015, Reach Up Reach Out was born.
For over a decade, RURO has served orphans, widows, and vulnerable families across Uganda, Kenya, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Los Angeles — sharing the gospel while providing education, scholarships, arts programs, and tangible care.
Their journey has included extraordinary miracles and profound heartbreak. After a courageous battle with Stage 4 bone cancer, Caleb went home to be with Jesus on February 14, 2024. His life continues to shape their mission. His courage, joy, and faith remain the heartbeat behind their commitment to "Do Good" everywhere they go — bringing hope, dignity, and love to those who need it most.
