Our Founders
Alex & Shunna Jones-Moreno
For more than two decades, Alex and Shunna Jones-Moreno have devoted their lives to loving God and serving people. As ordained ministers and founders of Reach Up Reach Out, they have ministered around the world, sharing a passion to see lives transformed by Jesus and marked by compassion in action. Both graduates of UCLA — Alex with a Masters in Social Work and Shunna with a degree in History — they bring pastoral care, strategic leadership, and deep empathy to everything they do.
In 2014, Alex, Shunna, and their 8-year-old daughter, Layla, moved to Uganda during the adoption of their son Caleb. What began as a personal journey became a calling. After witnessing the overwhelming needs of hundreds of vulnerable children, they knew they could not simply walk away. In 2015, Reach Up Reach Out was born.
For over a decade, RURO has served orphans, widows, and vulnerable families across Uganda, Kenya, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, Guatemala, and Los Angeles — sharing the gospel while providing education, scholarships, arts programs, and tangible care.
Their journey has included extraordinary miracles and profound heartbreak. After a courageous battle with Stage 4 bone cancer, Caleb went home to be with Jesus on February 14, 2024. His life continues to shape their mission.
