The “Why”
Widows and vulnerable women in East Africa can face tremendous economic and social challenges, often while carrying the responsibility of providing for children and extended family members. Without sustainable income, education, or strong support systems, breaking the cycle of poverty can be incredibly difficult.
We walk alongside women through a 12-month business training and mentorship program designed to launch sustainable, locally appropriate businesses. By teaching financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and basic literacy skills, we give mothers the tools to generate reliable income. Alongside practical aid—like food, clean water, and medical care when needed—we foster deep spiritual and personal growth through prayer, Christian discipleship, ongoing community support, and uplifting sisterhood gatherings.
How you can get involved
The RURO Sisterhood Training Program, supported in partnership with Caleb’s Heart Foundation, surrounds women with faith, friendship, practical assistance, and opportunity. Through a 12-month training and mentorship program, women gain skills in literacy, financial management, entrepreneurship, and small-business development, enabling them to create sustainable sources of income and build stronger futures for their families.
When a woman is empowered, the impact reaches far beyond her own life. Her children have a greater opportunity to remain in school, receive needed care, and experience greater stability. In this way, Sisterhood reflects the heart of Caleb’s legacy — helping create opportunities that can transform families for generations.
You can be involved in this work in two ways: By supporting Caleb’s Heart Foundation or sponsoring a woman through her 12 month training program. Your support will help provide a widow or vulnerable woman with the training, mentorship, encouragement, and practical tools she needs to create a sustainable income and a stronger future for her family.
